Second International Symposium on Himalayan Biodiversity and Bioresources
Pharmaceuticals, Cosmeceuticals and Nutraceuticals
October 10 to 12, 2020, Pokhara
Nepal is home to snowy mountains, green hills, fast-flowing rivers, and dense green forests. Geographically, Nepal is divided into three regions: The Himalayan region (15%), the Hilly region (68%), and the Terai region (17%). The elevation ranges from 50 meters to the top of the world, 8848 meters (Mt. Everest). Due to such extreme geographical diversities, unique topographies, and climatic conditions, Nepal has a wide variety of flora and fauna. Nepal has more than 7000 species of flowering plants and about 2000 plant species have been reported to possess medicinal value. Likewise, traditional healing systems such as Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha have been practiced in Nepal since ancient times. All healing systems use a large number of medicinal plants and their products. No doubt, these natural resources present a potential source of economic development for the local people. Despite their huge medicinal as well as economic value, very little attention has been paid for proper scientific study, conservation and sustainable use of these medicinal plants. The objective of this symposium is to discuss the research and utilization of natural products and their future prospects. Oral presentations by the invited speakers and poster presentations by the young researchers along with discussions in the relevant topics would be the mode of the symposium.
