Namaste everyone,
this is me, Aviyan Das. Today, I am trying to present my entire journey into engineering and the various turn of events. Engineering at IOE ERC was full of adventure and I tried my best to hold on to every single opportunity. I hope you will love reading it.
After +2
After plus two, the main question of every student is where to make their future? It was the same in my case as well. Therefore, I decided to make my future in the MBBS field. I did try to get enrolled for MBBS for two years but I could not get scholarship. In fact, I wanted to study MBBS only and only with scholarship but i was not fortunate enough. At that moment, I was in the middle of a two-year loss, I thought about giving examination in different fields. At the same time, I was already losing my confidence that I can get scholarship in any field. That is when, I started to give a thought that I will enroll myself into one of the course with scholarship. With all the preparation, I decided to sit for the entrance examination at IOE and got admitted to Purwanchal Campus in Mechanical department. The day of my admission to ERC was more, a day of commitment to give my best to this particular field. I believe two years of struggle was worth many lessons in life.
Start of Engineering
The first day of engineering as a student was a demotivation because my expectations were quite high. To be honest, I expected the practical side of things while it was the exact opposite of my imagination. However, I was constantly motivated and invested time on practical things.
I have a firm believe that when your thought process is in right place, we can get the right environment and a network of like-minded people. The same happened to me, I was supported by the seniors of my department as well as the others.
In the beginning, I was taking classes and right away, went to meet my seniors at lab. Sometimes, I do feel it was slightly more than necessary and I suggest not making this mistake.
MECHTRIX
It was in the semester break of first semester, the seniors of my college called me. Later, I came to know that they were preparing for MECHTRIX, a National Level Competition organized by Pulchowk Campus. I agreed to work with them though I did not know anything that moment. After that, we were told to study about Gasifier.
It was the very first project as an engineering student. One of our seniors needed help in designing mini and portable model of Gasifier. I never expected this as a first year student; we gave our heart and soul to this project. We no longer cared whether it day or night because we had that self believe instilled.
That competition gave so many things in return, dealing with public, production description and many more. We were encouraged by people across various professions. In addition to that, our involved in the project as a first year student was highly appreciated.
I think MECHTRIX was the beginning of everything for me as an engineering student. That particular event gave me more courage and energy to work. I want to thank my seniors for involving me into the project.
FOTS & TSAN Exhibition
The two consecutive technical festivals in ERC had more opportunities to come along with them. We worked on a Water Foundation Project in FOTS exhibition, our creation received the “Public Choice Award”. Moreover, I along with my teammate participated in the Paper Bridge and Project Demonstration during the inaugural TSAN Exhibition.
RAN & Robotics Club
I was still trying to get myself into studies after I failed to give engineering a good start in the first semester. Subsequently, there was an environment of ROBOCON in the campus. It exposed me with my interest towards the field of robotics.
In between all these things, I also worked on a “Automatic Green House Project” and demonstrated it during the Agriculture Expo. With all my involvement in various activities, I had poor time management and hence, failed yet another semester.
After the second semester, during the Dashain Vacation, I worked with my seniors who were my idol and other hardworking teammates. With the assistance of some of our teachers, we were able to cope with the adversities when working during vacation. Finally, we went into the Robotics competition organized by East RAN, we turned out as Winners. Now, we were to compete in the International Robotics Competition organized by RAN.
After the recent success in the East RAN, we were able to gather some trust from the Campus Administration. Some of our teachers to purchase the materials for Robotics Competition supported us.
It was again the repetition of same hard word, may be more than before. We were back to the drawing board. Ultimately, we emerged out as the Runner Up of the competition.
This was a wake-up call for all of us that Purwanchal Campus needs a Robotics Club. Our performance in the National Level injected that confidence throughout the campus. In an attempt to form a Robotics Club, we as a team convinced Campus administration, teachers, and sister organizations too. Our relentless effort in making things happen accumulated, Robotics Club was now in Campus. Financing, projects, resources, teamwork, and hard work altogether combined to produce a good inauguration. Many of us did not even sleep the day before the inauguration.
After the successful inauguration of Robotics Club, we came up with “Ideathon” on “Automatic Solar Panel Cleaning Robot”. Later, we made our participation in ROBOCON with the same theme. However, we were not very successful in doing that.
We also participated in the SETFARM training organized by CARD. It was learning experience to learn about automation in the field of agriculture.
Hult Prize
Hult Prize was known for its reputation globally. I applied for the post of Campus Representative and, was selected. At that moment, we had to conduct a series of qualifying rounds and also, conducted seminars on Hult Prize in Campus. This helped in bringing the entrepreneurial ideas from the campus. Our campus participated in the Hult Prize Event at Pulchowk Campus.
Engineering and Industrial Expo by NTBNS
NTBNS plan to organise exhibition and offered us to be organise Robotics competition. We agreed and this time we planned to enter the Eastern Nepal to spread the knowledge about robotics and to get some economic support. We had to face many problems although we did not lose our confidence and supports. This helped in improving the knowledge about Robotics in the school level. Many schools and college then recognized us.
Automation in Agricultural Competition in China 2018
I always had a feeling that I would get to participate in International Competitions if I was at Pulchowk Campus. However, I was destined to represent IOE, ERC at Wuhan for Automation in Agricultural Competition. I was offered to be a part of the team and yet another vacation was spent scribbling, designing, hit and trial and sleepless nights. All of us were left hopeless after the first flight was missed; I remember waiting for 6 long hours on the road. The very first international participation of IOE, ERC was in the process. It was a huge opportunity for every one of us. I owe thanks to Agriculture Department and the selection team for this opportunity.
HVAC & Microtech
After that competition in China, I realized the need of industrial experience. I researched about many sectors and took suggestion from my seniors those who have always provided me with guidance and support. I finally decided to make a career out of HVAC.
I got a chance to work in a well-recognized company “Microtech M&E Pvt.Ltd” under qualified professionals for three months. The site of work was “Marriott hotel”, to explore my knowledge and I think that was a timely opportunity. I completed my final year project on the HVAC Field. Currently, I am working at ” Microtech M& E Pvt.Ltd”.
Whatever I mentioned here was not possible alone, every single step was a combined effort of a lot of people and I am proud to be a part of it. I have not mentioned the names of my seniors, my classmates, friends, teachers and others who played their respective role in making all the above possible.
I want to thank every individual, I am high indebted to my seniors for those initial opportunities.
